My name is Cathy Limanowski and I am a graduate of DePaul University. I majored in journalism with a focus in photography. I graduated in June 2012 and I am very excited and hopful of the opportunities and experiences awaiting me.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved sports. I spent many summer nights at the local baseball stadium just taking in the game, the sights, smells and sounds. That to me was the essence of summer. Growing up, I began to fall in love with football, basketball, hockey, soccer, and any other game that couldn’t function properly without a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. I loved the idea of people feeding off each other, learning from each other, needing each other in order to achieve greatness.
When it came time to decide what I wanted to do with my life, I thought about what makes me happy. What would I want to wake up every morning and do? It was around that time that I attended a Chicago Blackhawks game. It was an amazing game full of teamwork, passion and incredible talent. As I’m cheering along with the other fans, creating bonds with complete strangers and sharing in the glory of a game-winning goal, I realized that I wanted every fan out there to be able to feel what I was feeling at that moment and the only way I could think to share that moment with the millions of other fans all over the world was through photography. Even if everyone couldn’t be in that stadium with me, I could capture those moments with my camera and record them in history so that even future generations could share in the passion and glory of that moment.
It was not until recently that I also became very interested in sports radio as well. I had never considered radio as a field for me until I took a class during my final quarter at DePaul and was blessed enough to have Laurence Holmes as my teacher. Throughout my time in his class, I became very passionate about radio being a career path I would like to follow. Being that I discovered the field so late, I am trying to take in as much information as I can to learn about the field and find a way in any way I can.
So I decided to start learning, trying to take in as much information as I possibly could. I am continuing to learn and will always continue learning. I am never going to be perfect but I will always strive for it. I am willing to listen to other opinions, learn from those who came before me as well as those who are learning with me. I want to share my passion and experiences with others and allow everyone the opportunity to connect to their favorite team or athlete and revel in those memorable moments along with them.
My goal is to wake up every morning and be happy, to share my life with others and to contribute and make a difference to as many people as I possibly can. I love documenting moments that become memories; whether it’s through writing, photography or a combination of the two. It is my gift and it’s a gift I’m happy to share.
